GUAPIMIRIM HEADQUARTERS

The Guapimirim headquarters of Serra dos Órgãos National Park, located at km 98 of the BR-116 highway (which connects the city of Rio to Teresópolis), is an Atlantic Forest refuge featuring waterfalls, natural swimming pools, and the Von Martius Museum — a historic building dating back to the former Fazenda do Soberbo, where the German botanist and naturalist Friedrich Philipp von Martius stayed while studying the region’s flora and fauna in the 19th century.

TERESÓPOLIS HEADQUARTERS

Altitudinal range:
940m - 1200m *trails suitable for birdwatching

Environment:

Montane ombrophilous dense forest with high concentration of native bamboos and Juçara Palm trees

TRILHA SUSPENSA / ELEVATED TRAIL

One of the park’s main attractions for birders is the Elevated Trail. This 1-km-long elevated walkway brings birders to eye level with species of the midstory and, occasionally, the canopy. The forest is dominated by native bamboos, and several Euterpe edulis (Juçara Palm) trees can still be found. It is a great spot to observe typical montane forest species, including those associated with bamboo.
