With continuous forest cover across the full altitudinal range, from 35 metres to over 2,000 metres above sea level, a wide variety of habitats including lowland and highland forests, wetlands, and farmland, a lodge designed especially for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts, and a network of excellent birdwatching trails, REGUA is a very special place for both birds and birdwatchers. A total of 482 bird species have been recorded in the Reserve, giving it a reputation as one of the best birding hotspots in Brazil. The reserve is managed by the Locke family and, in addition to being an important birding destination, it also carries out an impressive forest restoration project within the reserve and its surrounding areas, with more than 1 million trees planted.

Ombrophilous Dense Forest (lowland forest, sub-montane forest, montane forest), farmlands, wetlands.

Brazilian Tanager*, Yellow-Backed Tanager, White-bellied Tanager*, Flame-crested Tanager, Green-headed Tanager*, Orange-bellied Euphonia, Black-banded Owl, Shrike-like Cotinga, White-necked Hawk*, Yellow-eared Woodpecker*, Chestnut-backed Antshrike*, Unicoloured Antwren*, Gray-hooded Atilla*, Scaled Antbird*, Rufous-capped Antthrush, Ochre-bellied Flycatcher, Yellow-throated Woodpecker, Black-capped Becard, Crescent-chested Puffbird*, Boat-billed Heron, Capped Heron, Lemon-chested Greenlet, Long-tailed Pootoo and many others. *Brazilian endemics
