Located in the valley of the Paraíba do Sul River, Vale do Café is the tourist name for the region where coffee was the main economic activity in the 19th century. Today, the natural environment has recovered, and the region contains large forest fragments, forming an ecological corridor that connects the Serra do Tinguá to the Serra da Bocaina. This area is influenced by both the humid forests of the Serra do Mar and the semi-deciduous forests of the Paraíba Valley. Also of great interest for birdwatching are the extensive areas of fields and marshes, where it is still possible to find bird species that have become rare in many parts of Rio de Janeiro.
Altitudinal range:
400 m - 600 m
Environment:
Atlantic semi-deciduous forest (submontane), open country areas and marshlands.
