Located in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, with easy access from the North, South, and West Zones of the city, Tijuca National Park protects the largest urban forest in the world, covering 3,953 hectares of Atlantic Forest. The result of one of the most successful reforestation projects in Brazil, the forests of the park now harbor a great diversity of endemic Atlantic Forest species, including threatened birds such as the White-necked Hawk (Amadonastur lacernulatus) and the Brown-backed Parrotlet (Touit melanonotus). One of Rio de Janeiro's most iconic tourist attractions, Christ the Redeemer, is located within the park, and a visit to this important monument can be combined with a birding tour in the morning.

Channel-billed Toucan, Black-cheeked Gnateater*, Green-headed Tanager*, Red-necked Tanager*, Swallow-tailed Manakin, Dusky-throated Hermit, Pin-tailed Manakin*, Long-billed Wren*, Yellow-legged Thrush, Flame-crested Tanager, White-necked Hawk*, Bare-throated Bellbird, Yellow-eared Woodpecker*, Unicoloured Antwren*, Scaled Antbird*, Crescent-chested Puffbird*, Ruby-crowned Ant-Tanager, White-eyed Foliage-gleaner, Rufous-breasted Leaftosser, Rufous-capped Motmot, Brown-backed Parrotlet*, Buff-throated Saltator. *Brazilian endemics
